It’s been a busy month of curation for the Mana Contemporary Chicago campus community. The day before a virtual ‘Open Book’ session with Matt Austin, the Pilsen cultural center continued their ongoing ‘Community Lunch’ tradition.

Community Lunch is an in-person series where artists convene with fellow colleagues and exchange ideas over lunch. This past Wednesday’s edition was hosted by Chicago-based curator and writer Allison Peters Quinn.

Over 30 artists enjoyed conversation and a fascinating presentation by Quinn. Over the past 10 years, she has been focused on projects addressing the intersections between art, public space and civically-minded practices. Currently, Quinn serves as the Director of Exhibition and Residency Programs at Hyde Park Art Center in Chicago.

Fostering community is one of the most important aspects of art making. Many create work as individuals but communicating the artwork, its history, the materials, and how it relates to the artist’s broader lineage of ideas are crucial elements to reinforce the foundation and support of all art making practices.
